It’s important to remember the fundamental elements to life.
Looking back, art has always played a part in my life. To varying degrees, in varying ways, but art’s always mattered to me – even if I often don’t think of whatever it is I’ve been appreciating / using / creating / enjoying as art.
The Caversham site is part of the ‘Unstated.name’ collective, as is ‘Getting Directions’. Getting Direction covers lots of things including both physical and mental health, and hence I was very pleased to come across this (short) article on the DesignBoom site about art being “a foundational component of well-being, a ‘forgotten fifth pillar’ alongside diet, sleep, exercise, and nature.”
Rather than attempting to summarise it, all I’ll say is that it all rings true to me and it might well do so for you. It’s easy to forget how important art has always been to humans . Important? The oldest cave paintings are over 64,000 years old. Yes, 64,000 years. (The link, below, to the BBC site adds more detail.)
