It’s too easy to not enjoy what’s on your doorstep.
Below is a pretty rough-and-ready montage of garden birds. They were all taken within a few minutes of one another in my garden, in December 2023. A greenfinch, a couple of goldfinches, a great spotted woodpecker (the one with the red bum) and the blur of a great tit just approaching or leaving a peanut feeder.
All these photos were taken with a hand-held pocket camera, through double-glazing and across my garden. I’m no great photographer! But I’m adding this item to the Caversham site simply because I’ve had a few instances lately which made me realize how little people notice what’s around them. You don’t have to travel to exotic locations to see some lovely things. You don’t have to spend much or, indeed, any money. You just have to look around you – and take the time to notice.

If you’re keen to identify which birds you’re seeing in Caversham, I’ve found the Bird Spot site a good place to start – clear and easy to use.
