You never know what the future holds, for you or anyone else. (Updated June 2025: the link below includes details about the new location for plasma donations.)
Giving blood and giving plasma too. Neither are hard to do. (Indeed, Reading has one of only three plasma-donation sites in England.) We can all find ourselves in need of blood. Plasma goes in to making medicines that can transform lives.
So, what stops us donating? Yes, of course there can be very real reasons why someone can’t donate … but a lot of us can. But somehow or another, for some reason or another, we don’t get around to it.
I’m not blaming anyone! Procrastination is all too human. And it’s very easy for all of us to succumb to human nature. I’m just as guilty.
But then something comes along to rattle things. Witnessing a friend or relative in urgent need of blood to survive is a real wake-up call.
No, this isn’t a Caversham-specific item. But you can be sure that there are people in Caversham whose lives have been transformed, saved, because strangers gave blood and/or plasma. If you can, give. You never know who’ll benefit, but someone will.
The links below are to various NHS sites which I hope are self-explanatory. You should find all the details you need. The photo (which I’ve borrowed from their site) shows the Reading Plasma Donor Centre.
